Roanoke River Regional Collaborative to Host Cultural Awareness Seminar

The Roanoke River Regional Collaborative (RRRC) is hosting the second annual Cultural Awareness Seminar on Saturday, June 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (with complimentary lunch) at Halifax Community College in Weldon, NC.

The RRRC is an alliance of organizations in the five counties of North Carolina’s Roanoke River region - Bertie, Halifax, Martin, Northampton, and Washington - that focuses on community engagement in identifying solutions to the economic, environmental and social justice issues that affect our region, and in working to raise the standards of living and quality of life for communities and individuals alike.

RRRC is committed to continue creating jobs and small businesses, raising the standards for economic development, and increasing the awareness and connections between our environment and our communities.

Our Roanoke River Region is rich in history, heritage and culture. The Roanoke River Regional Collaborative invites you to join us for this Cultural Awareness Seminar to learn more about the fabric of our communities. Hosting this annual Cultural Awareness Seminar is one step in the broader effort to support the RRRC’s mission. Attendance at the seminar is free of charge, but participants will need to register in order to provide an accurate lunch count.

The seminar facilitator is Cynthia Brown of The Conservation Fund. Brown is also the founder and principal consultant with The Sojourner Group established in 2001.  Working with various non-profit groups over 24 years, she has engaged rural leaders and non-profit organizational leaders in coalition building, organizing and advocacy on economic justice issues like workers’ rights, worker health and safety, welfare reform, anti-oppression, living wage work, environmental justice, sustainable development, etc. She has used training to increase grassroots organizations’ capacity to build their own organizations, build effective alliances, and advocate for public policies that address their needs.

For more information about the Cultural Awareness seminar or to register, please call the Halifax County Visitors Center at 1-800-522-4282.
