    NCDOT Traffic Incidents

    ALL LANES CLOSED ON I-40 WESTBOUND, NEAR MILE MARKER 20, WEST OF ASHEVILLE, IN HAYWOOD COUNTY.

    Due to a rock slide in Tennessee near Exit 451, I-40 West is closed near US 276, Exit 20, West of Asheville, in Haywood County.  At this time, The Tennessee Department of Transportation expects the road to remain closed until February 7th, when one lane is expected to reopen, as crews work to stabilize the area of the slide.  Motorists are advised to use caution in the area, stay alert, and are being advised to use the following detour:

    Traffic travelling west to Tennessee should take I-40 West to I-240 West (Exit 53b) in Asheville, to I-26 West (Exit 4a).  Follow I-26 West from Asheville to I-81 South (Exit 8a) in Tennessee, back to I-40.  All commercial vehicles MUST use this detour.

    East bound traffic is currently unaffected by this rock slide.

    The Greensboro Coliseum Complex will host multiple, simultaneous events on Saturday, February 4, including the annual Winter Jam concert which is expected to draw a capacity crowd. The Greensboro Coliseum Complex, Greensboro Department of Transportation and Greensboro Police Department (GPD) advise all patrons to plan to arrive early, and carpooling is strongly encouraged.

    Patrons planning to attend the Winter Jam concert should plan to arrive at the Coliseum by 4:30 p.m.

    The GPD will be managing major intersections in the vicinity of the Coliseum and variable messaging systems will be deployed to advise motorists of parking and traffic information.

    The Winston-Salem Entertainment-Sports Complex will host professional bull riding which is expected to increase traffic volumes surrounding the coliseum.  In anticipation of increased traffic volume surrounding the event, the Coliseum and Winston Salem DOT will be managing major intersections in the vicinity of the event.  Variable messaging systems along the surrounding highways/roadways will be deployed to advise motorists with parking and traffic information.    Patrons should plan to arrive early, at least one hour prior to event start times if possible.   Carpooling is strongly encouraged.
