The Dallas Jones Veterans Museum located in Becker Village Mall has a bright new look. The Veterans Museum now bears a shiny bronze sign that was purchased by the Halifax County Convention and Visitors Bureau and designed and installed by Express Signs of Roanoke Rapids.
The Halifax County Convention and Visitors Bureau not only works diligently to draw visitors to our area to stay in our hotels but also offers support in a variety of ways to help market our attractions to the traveling public. Purchasing signage for the Veterans Center, which is a significant new attraction for our area, is one means of helping the attraction grow and better market to visitors.
“We have been amazed by the interest in the Veterans Museum by the traveling public,” said Lori Medlin, Executive Director of the Halifax County CVB. “We can hardly keep their brochures in stock.”
The Veterans Museum, which will celebrate its first anniversary on November 11, 2009, is a place for veterans and their families to reflect and remember, as well as a venue for history buffs to immerse themselves in the reality of war and the military history of the United States through the eyes of the veterans who made that history.
The Veterans Museum is the culmination of a dream of 85-year-old Pearl Harbor survivor Dallas Jones. The museum is open for individuals, tour groups and schools Tuesday-Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The museum is free to the public; however, donations to support the continued operation and new endeavors of the museum are much needed.
The Dallas Jones Veterans Museum is located in Becker Village Mall, 1620 East 10th Street, Roanoke Rapids, NC 27870. Contact them at 252-537-0880 or visit them on the web at rvalleyvetcenter.com.
